As the world observe World Social Work Day, the school of Social Work, Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU), organized the Regional Social Work Conference in collaboration with National Association of Professional Social Workers and the Office of the Dean of Academics on the theme “Supporting individuals, Empowering Communities” at the State Central Library, on the 18 th of March, 2025. The theme perfectly encapsulates the essence of social work. True change begins when we uplift individuals, giving them the support, resources, and knowledge they need to lead better lives. But beyond individual transformation, our larger goal is to empower entire communities—fostering resilience, inclusivity, and sustainable progress.
The objective of the conference was to provide a platform for students from different colleges, faculty and practitioners of Social Work from diverse field to showcase their work and experiences for the benefit of the larger community, as well as to contribute to the development of competencies and skills within the profession. This conference is an interface between academic and field practice igniting critical thinking and intervention-based problem-solving skills amongst students which is in line with the New Education Policy 2020. To achieve the same, the School of Social Work introduces the Action Based Research where the students developed different intervention strategies in their respective area of interest. The outcome of these intervention includes manuals, comics, brochures, and various community based initiatives fostering a closer connection between the institutional mechanisms and the beneficiaries.
The distinguished guests who graced this conference includes Shri. Swapnil Tembe, Director, Directorate of School Education and Literacy Shillong, Mr. Mangneo Lhungdim, Executive Director, OASIS, India and Mr. Pradyut Bhattacharjee, Executive Director, SeSta. The conference was marked by the presence of several partnering NGOs working in the development sector. The active engagement of all those involved made a conference a resounding success.
