Eligibility: Bachelor’s degree in any science discipline

About the program

Environmental science is highly inter and multi-disciplinary in nature and integration of natural sciences with social sciences and humanities in a holistic study of the world around us is required to achieve the objectives of the program.  The course includes the biological and social matter that relate to current environmental issues, conservation strategies, legal aspects, basic ecological and technological concerns and advances, and scientific analysis and solutions to environmental problems.

The program seeks to help students to:

Acquire and apply scientific knowledge about environmental issues so as to understand the essential underlying scientific concepts,

Develop a deeper understanding of environmental issues by relating scientific knowledge with environmental, social, cultural (indigenous), and economic perspectives.

Acquire the necessary problem-solving skills that would enable them to examine and propose alternatives to a variety of environmental problems through research and  experimentation

Critically evaluate their attitudes, behaviour and values and consequently adopt a more sustainable lifestyle, an element of responsible global citizenship.

This postgraduate program encompasses a wide variety of subject matter from different fields like ecology, waste management, biodiversity conservation, environmental economics, natural resource management, environmental and social impact assessment environmental laws, sustainable development and livelihoods, media and environmental activism, ethics and intellectual property rights, besides indigenous environmental knowledge that is supported with lab and field based experiential learning

Career prospects

The career options for graduates with MSc in Environmental Sciences are available in government and private sectors including industries and NGOs. The course in itself covers large areas of natural sciences and promises employment opportunities as scientists, academicians, environmentalists, environmental managers, researchers, project managers, environmental consultants, journalists and analysts.
