Course -
Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT)

Duration: 2 years (4 semesters) + 6 months internship.
Eligibility: 10 Pass (or equivalent)
DMLT is a paramedical course which deals with the various laboratory investigations. The total duration of the course is for 2 years and 6 months, whereby 6 months is the internship period. The subjects to be covered during the first semester are mainly basic sciences and from the second semester to the fourth semester preclinical subjects will be covered. The program covers the basic preclinical subjects such as Biochemistry, Microbiology, Blood Banking and Pathology. The Technologists do these tests by analyzing body fluids, tissues, blood typing, microorganism screening, chemical analysis, cell count, etc.

First  year

Iand IIsemester

In the 1st semester, the students will be taught basic science subjects such as anatomy and physiology, basic microbiology basic chemistry and biochemistry. In the 2nd semester they will be taught preclinical subjects with practical.

The students will acquire knowledgeand skills in basic sciences and preclinical subjects covered in the 1st year of the course.

Second year

III and IV
semester

In the 3rd and 4thsemester the students will be taught theory of preclinical subjects along with practical.

The student’s will gain knowledge and will be able to perform various basic tests required for analyzing samples in the laboratory.

6 months

Internship

During this period the students will be trained to perform different methods of laboratory testing and analyzing various types of samples through postings in different laboratories of the hospital in which they are doing their internship.

The students will gain practical skills and an in-depth experience in the different techniquesthat are involved with laboratory diagnosis.

Course of study
Teaching is delivered by a combination of:

  • Theoretical knowledge:lectures, demonstration, seminars, computer aided learning and assignments.
  • Practical knowledge:practical classes, hands-on clinical experience in hospitals and rural healthcare and internship.
