Course - Post Graduate
Master of Science in Nutrition & Dietetics

Duration: 2 years (3 semesters) + 1 semester internship.
Eligibility: B.Sc Home Science/B.Sc Clinical Nutrition/ Bachelors degree with Physiology or Chemistry or Nutrition as one of the subjects.
Nutritionists and dietitians deal with people to inform and guide them about the diet they should take to improve the general health, to avoid certain diseases or to keep the existing ailments in control. People suffering from certain diseases need to take extra care of their eating habits and the kind of food they eat. Ignorance of this can aggravate the disease, whereas adherence to the right diet can help in speedy recovery or stability of the condition.
About the course
Major role of dietitians is to assist people in planning their meals depending upon their age, sickness or work routine. Nutritionists counsel individuals and groups, organize the food service systems in hospitals, schools, hotels etc. Dietitians specialize in education, research, administration and clinical /   community dietetics. This field finds application in medicine, veterinary, agriculture and public health.

First year
I&II Semester

The course intent to provide advanced knowledge in nutritional sciences, food microbiology, food cost and quality control. It will also help the student to performed clinical laboratory techniques.

*The students will be able to develop food product, check its quality, calculate its cost and identify the channel to promote it.
*The students will be able to incorporate functional food ingredients in diet therapy.
*The students will be able to perform clinical biochemical analysis and relate the result to various health conditions.
*The students will be able to conduct nutritional survey, impart nutrition education and provide recommendations in relation to nutrition and health.

Second year
IIISemester

 

 

IV Semester

The course intent to provide advanced knowledge in dietetics, food facility layout and equipment, food financial management and research methodology and statistics.
It will also enable the students to gain hands-on-experience in clinical laboratory techniques, advanced dietetics through practical classes, project and 6 month internship in Indian Dietetics Association (IDA) recommended hospitals.

*The students will be able to carry out projects related to nutrition.
*The students will be able to perform clinical biochemical analysis and relate the result to various health conditions.
*The students will be equipped to become a dietitian and to meet the criteria for appearing the Registered Dietitian examination.
*The student will be able to become an entrepreneur in food processing and setting up a diet clinic.
*The student will be able to performed statistical analysis.

Course of study
The course is designed to deliver a combination of

  • Theoretical knowledge: lectures, seminars, computer-aided learning, group discussions, debate, quiz, assignments, report writing and observation.
  • Practical knowledge: practical classes, demonstrations, hands-on clinical experience, model making, health camps, awareness programmes, internships, visit to hospitals, rural healthcare center and food industries.
