An Evening of Storytelling at Dinam Hall

SHILLONG: It has been informed by Vice President communal of The Shillong Society for Performing Arts (SSPA), Ms. Pauline Warjri, that an evening of storytelling called ‘The Myths Within Us’ will take place at Dinam Hall, Jaiaw on February 08 at 04:30PM.

Kamini Ramachandran, an English Literature & Language graduate from the University of Reading in UK, and Dr. Gideon Arulmani, a clinical psychologist from the University of Portsmouth  also in UK, will enthrall us with a modern take on ancient fables where Ms. Ramachandran will narrate the stories while Dr. Arulmani will interpret the stories into our reality. In this retelling, they will touch upon psychological insights on the characters and events from ‘Episodes of the Ramayana’, a story of the rooster and the Sun called ‘The Purple Chest’, and conclude with a fable from our own Khasi Hills called ‘U Thlen: The Man Eating Serpent’.

Ms. Ramachandran is currently a private teacher of Speech and Drama in Kaula Lumpur. She also founded the Moon Shadow Stories back in 2004 and helped promote the lost art of oral narrative. She is now the President of Singapore Storytelling Association.Dr. Arulmani wrote and produced his first full-length drama when he was only 17 and is currently working on two fictional novels based on historical events in and around South Asia. A company he informally initiated called MOWLA, also known as ‘Move On With Your Life And…’, searches for unheard of stories in nature to create handmade artifacts with. These artistes have presented their unique brand of storytelling in various parts of the world and SSPA is pleased to present them to our discerning community.
