Centre for Education

Objectives of the Centre

  1. To enhance the teaching- learning skills of the faculty
  2. To equip students with the optimal knowledge, skills and attitudes or the purpose and process of teaching-learning
  3. To engage and involve students in organizing educational community-based projects
  4. To conduct research on teaching- learning relevant to Meghalaya and the Northeast

The Centre currently offers a minor of 12 credits for undergraduate students in ‘Teaching and Learning’ which was carried out in three semesters of 4 credits each. The minor is part of the Choice Based Credit System. For postgraduate students an elective subject entitled ‘Basic in Teaching and Leaning’ of four credits is offered only to MSW students who have completed their BSW. The centre also provides Teaching-Learning certification to all teachers joining the University. The Centre also conducts workshops on Teaching-Learning for other institutions.

The Centre has the responsibility of identifying new trends in teaching-learning approaches and to put in practice new concepts as approved by the Academic Council of the University. These will be put into practice by first conducting workshops to orient and provide the necessary skills for application in the classroom. One example currently in progress is Self-Directed Learning.

The Centre intends to begin undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs in the coming years and upgrade to a Department.
