University Research Day 2017

The Martin Luther Christian University was established with the aim of contributing to the development of the state, Meghalaya and North Eastern Region of India as rightly pointed in its mission statement. Educating the youth of the region in various professional courses and reaching out into the communities through community projects has been a unique feature of the university.

The society is dynamic and therefore the university has to also move with time; its courses or community projects has to be in tuned with the context. The question arises, how does the university become relevant to the society? Research could become a key in making the university relevant in the society. Research informs educators about the changing contexts; which enables educators to redefine learning and its systems. It also informs about practice i.e. it assists the educators to understand curriculum and its relevance in the job market. With the understanding that emerges from scientific research, educators can take an informed decision as to which direction, a change is required.

The North Eastern Region has a myriad of problems but the lack of research studies have left these problems unexplained. This leaves a gap in the knowledge of our region. Therefore the university encourages students and faculty to take up the research studies, not just to contribute to the body of knowledge but rather that are action oriented which will benefit the communities. All courses in MLCU except for computer science whether the Undergraduate or Post Graduate courses have research methodology and the students undertake research projects.

To recognize the efforts of the students in Research and to encourage research among students and faculty, the University Research Cell has organized the University Research Day for the past 2 years.  The outcome has been that students have a better understanding that Research can be a career option and also, he/she can use research to improve their professional practice. This year, the University Research Day will be held on August 22, 2017. Here, the best three research studies of students from each department were nominated for the Award of Excellence in Research.
