MLCU observes International Day of Yoga

Shillong June 21: Along with the rest of the world, the Martin Luther Christian University today celebrated the International Day of Yoga by having an hour long introductory Yoga session in the University premises.
The session was led by Mrs. Sharlene Das, who is a renowned Yoga instructor in the city. She is trained in Hatha Yoga which is one of the various forms of yoga. She is a certified Yoga Instructor under the International Yoga Alliance, and she opened Aerodene Yoga Studio in 2010 where regular Yoga classes and a variety of workshops in Ayurveda, Hypnotherapy, Past Life Regression are conducted.
The yoga session was attended by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Mr. RG Lyngdoh, faculty, non-teaching staff and a few students. Since most of the attendees were new to Yoga, Mrs. Das conducted a very basic session where she introduced the ideology the various forms of yoga. She also fielded questions on yoga and how to practice it and also if Yoga was in any way a form of religious practice.
The International Day of Yoga or commonly and unofficially referred to as Yoga Day is celebrated annually on 21 June since its inception in 2015. The International Yoga Day was declared unanimously by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on 11 December, 2014.
