Department of Social Work

The Mission Statement
“To strive towards excellence in the field of social work practice and research in alignment with prevailing cultural heritage and indigenous knowledge systems through comprehensive development of students.”

The Department was started in 2006 with the MSW and the BSW was started in 2007, and the total number of graduates are 959. At present the department has 15 full time faculty.

The major projects and activities initiated and organized by the department include:

1. Model Village Project, Umsawli

2. Project Help Desk, Nongmynsong

3. A baseline survey on Social, Political and Economic Empowerment of Women in Meghalaya in collaboration with the State Commission of Women in Meghalaya

4. Exploratory study on the socio-economic status and problems of single mothers in Meghalaya in collaboration with the State Commission of women.

5. Campaign on Consumer Rights

6. Survey on the Annual Status of Educational Report (ASER)

7. Awareness programs on Gender, Health, Importance of Education, Substance Use Disorders and workshops on Life Skills and Career Skills.
